What matters most to me is not treating the illness alone, but protecting the time in which an animal can live as themselves. Rather than simply suppressing symptoms, we consider together why the trouble is happening, and — building up choices your family can feel confident about — propose the treatment that suits your companion.
Treating disease is, of course, important. But I believe that standing beside an animal and their family, supporting them so that their time together can be spent calmly, is an equally important part of a veterinarian's role.
For senior animals and chronic conditions, one meaningful goal is that they can spend their days calmly in the home they know, and meet the close of a full life in their own way.

After years of joint pain managed with painkillers and injections, he began to have incontinence and paralysis. When I was told yet another drug would be added, I got scared and came for a consultation. First, all of his past blood test results were reviewed to pin down the cause; then, switching to herbal medicine and drugs with fewer side effects, we were able to reduce the medications he'd been on, little by little. In about two weeks the incontinence stopped, and now the wobbliness in his legs is gone too. I had truly been in despair, so seeing my boy doing well makes me so happy. I'm glad I reached out.

Things I couldn't see from the usual tests at our regular clinic — abnormalities in the body, mineral balance and so on — became clear, and with the added perspective of Eastern medicine, our recent troubles really made sense. One morning she suddenly couldn't walk, struggling to get up and collapsing again. She's a senior, and I was worried, so we came in.
